Preparing for Competitive Employment with GT Opportunities Skill Building

GT Independences' Skill Building program teaches the basic, necessary skills to gain and retain competitive employment for an individual in their community. People who participate in our program gain on-the-job skills, while earning money for the work they perform. Job Coaches offer guidance and support to help people learn basic work skills like:

  • How to fill out a job application
  • Do’s and don’ts of a job interview
  • Reporting to work on time
  • How to dress appropriately for the work environment
  • How and why to ask for help when uncertain of job processes or responsibilities
  • How to appropriately deal with conflict in the work place
  • How to get along with co-workers with different personalities
  • How to work successfully in a team-oriented environment
  • How to stay on a job, finish it and meet deadlines
  • How to perform quality work and participate in quality assurance
  • How to determine when to order products and maintain inventory
  • How to work safely and identify hazards in the workplace

Today’s employment environment is tougher than ever. We need to be prepared when opportunity knocks. GT’s skill building program helps people to be ready for those opportunities.
