Most people spend a significant part of their lives working. The most obvious reason for working is to supply ourselves with money to purchase the things we need (and if we’re lucky, some of the things we want) in our life.

What we don’t think about very often are all of the other things that work does for us. Our jobs challenge us, and provide opportunity for a sense of accomplishment. They make us part of a team and teach us to work with others. They provide opportunities for friendship with co-workers. Our jobs make us useful and needed. They make others depend on us and notice when we’re not around. In short, our work helps define us as members of our community.

Everyone should have a chance to work.

GT Independence focuses on providing work through creative services like skill building and supported employment. We contract with local units of government like community mental health and state government agencies like Michigan Rehabilitative Services.

We provide staffing for non-profit organizations like the St. Joseph Community Co-Op

Our goal is to help people get jobs in their community – and to empower them to have challenges and be an important part of a team so they can earn their living and enjoy the benefits of work that most of us don’t really think about.
